Many, especially local Shanghainese, may ask themselves "What does my future to do with life at a private club?" The truth is there are valid reasons behind the statement.
Many times one may, upon seeing the successful career of friends, think to himself, ¡°I wish I could be in his shoes.¡± This does not have to be a dream; It can come true. The only thing one has to do is to be willing to spend time and money and to mingle with the right sort of people.
There is something worth mentioning here about the history of private clubs. Many years ago, in London England, there was a Caf¨¦ & Restaurant called "The White" which was opened to public. The operation and the management of the restaurant was so good that over time it gained tremendous popularity. The restaurant's regular patrons consisted mostly of lawyers and bankers in London. In order to ensure privacy and exclusivity, they proposed to the owner of the restaurant that they were ready to pay a lump sum upfront to the owner in order to reserve the restaurant as an exclusive gathering place for the group. On a monthly basis, they would contribute dues for the maintenance and upkeep of The White. As time went by, news spread and many other up market professionals showed interest in joining The White. The first private business club was thus founded.
Private clubs have evolved to become a large part of contemporary culture. Requirements such as a dress code and mode of behavior ensure only those who are comfortable with such rules become members. The majority of these people are mature and sophisticated individuals and executives from corporations with have an entrepreneurial vision. Now envision, in a private club with members of like kind conversing over drinks at some event or merely just socializing and relaxing, one would have gained instant access to the kind of network that can help you in many diverse aspects of your career and life.
Members of a private club form a mini society of their own. Owing to its size, members will have frequent contact with each other. Some, over a period of time, may even mutually extend their respective business network to each other. In private clubs, as the membership roaster may be limited, Membership may only be available when an existing member sells or transfers their full membership. The value of full membership, thus, may also increase dramatically over time.
